Staff Appreciation Sunday

7/20/2014

Picture
During Staff Appreciation Day, Pastor Clint Poncy and Nate Cress preach a tag team message on communion titled "Community." Pastor Clint teaches on taking a part in the body of Christ and the necessity for diversity. Nate speaks on the power of the blood of Jesus and how important it is to apply His blood to our daily lives.
Sermon Notes:

The Body - Pastor Clint Poncy
1 Corinthians 12:12-26

We are Community

1. We are all called to minister
Don't just look the part. Do your part.

2. Christ's body must be diverse
Definition of Homogeneous: Made up of the same kind of people or things.

3. We have to function together
When one part of the body is weak, we should not neglect it.

The Cup - Nate Cress
Exodus 12:1-13

No Greater Love

What is it about blood that has caused Christians in every generation to celebrate it?
Luke 22:14-22

We must not only drink from the cup. We must also apply the blood and its power.

Definition of Apply: to put to use, especially for some practical purpose, to bring into action, or to lay or spread on.

1. A Lamb for Every Man (Household)
What is a testament? A testament is a voluntary act and deed of a single person, duly executed and witnessed, bestowing legacies on such legatees as are described and characterized by the testator, and which can only take effect upon his death.
Jesus became the Lamb for every man!

2. Share the Lamb
We've been sharing Jesus since the first century church. He is still more than enough.

3. Apply the Blood
Had the Israelites only slaughtered the lambs and never applied to blood as commanded, the blood would not have had any power for them.

Taking the cup is more than just remembering what Christ did.

There is Power in the Blood of Jesus
  • Cleanses us from sin
  • Cleanses our consciences
  • Gives us life
  • Gives us boldness
  • Sanctifies us
  • Heals us
  • Helps us to overcome the devil
  • Rescues us from a sinful way of life
